Is Beatstar coming back?

No. Not in a "probably not" way — the servers were switched off permanently on 31 October 2025, the game was pulled from both app stores, and nobody holding the rights has announced any plan to bring it back.

If you have seen a video or a post suggesting otherwise, it is almost certainly aboutBeatclone, a community project that is a different thing — covered further down.

What actually happened

Beatstar was made by Space Ape Games and later run by a studio called NextBeat. In August 2025, Duolingo hired most of the NextBeat team away in one go. That left a handful of people where there had been around thirty, which is not enough to keep an online game with a licensed music catalogue running. Both Beatstar and its sibling Country Star were wound down, with servers going offline on 31 October 2025.

It is worth being precise about the cause, because the usual assumption is wrong: this was not a game that failed commercially and got switched off. It was a game whose team left.

Your account, your songs, your purchases

What you are askingWhere it stands
Can I log back in?No. Progress lived on servers that no longer exist.
Can I replay the songs offline? No. The catalogue was licensed, not owned, so it could not stay in the app.
Can I get a refund on gems or a pass?Anything bought long ago is outside the stores' refund windows. It costs nothing to ask Apple or Google, but do not expect much.
Will someone buy it and relaunch it?Possible in principle, announced by nobody. A relaunch would need the music relicensed from three major labels — the expensive part, and the reason to not hold your breath.

The thing people mistake for a revival

Beatclone is a community project, not an official return, and not on the App Store. On iPhone it is far more work than the videos suggest.

If you would rather just install something tonight,we wrote up the live rhythm games and what each one does well. And if you still have Beatstar on your phone wondering why it will not load, that is covered separately.

Or wait for ours

“1 Beat: Hit Music Game” is a four-lane rhythm game for iPhone and Android, in development, free to play. There is nothing to download yet. Leave your email and we will tell you when there is.
